Description

Have you ever asked yourself, “What were my ancestors like?” or “Where did my family come from?” Then this may be the workshop for you! Join Brenda Reynolds as she guides you through a journey of your family’s history. In this workshop, participants will develop the skills to build a family history lineage; learn about the records and documentation needed, and then start on their journey to discover more.

This workshop is for curious beginners (who are over the age of 18 and have the ability to navigate websites). It will highlight the types primary and secondary records used to document names, dates, and places; and how to decipher records. By the end of the 5-week workshop, participants should be able to prepare for a search, know the types of records used in proving your work, where to locate them, and how to decipher the data contained within the records.

Brenda is a genealogist with 40 years of experience. She’s served as a president of a local genealogy society, founded an online genealogy project, and several genealogy mailing lists, and reunited many people. Her pet project is growing the number of known burials in the Lett Cemetery, Sodus Township, from a list of 21 names to 130 burials.
